The Tower of Strength (by Peju Okunoye)

April '03

Literally, the word tower is used to describe a tall, narrow building; but taking an in-depth look, it means much more than a tall building. A Tower signifies or connotes strength, something higher or taller than people, something greater than others in ability, quality, or fame. A Tower is a place of refuge from danger. Considering the world over, life is full of challenges and woes, enough to make us desperate for the need for a Tower. Gone are the days when safety and security could be sought in friends; men are in desperation, as events seem to get worse every day. Probably you are one of those people in despair, (if there are any exceptions at all), tired of life and wondering if there will ever be an end to the ongoing turmoil around us war, famine, drought, insecurity, death, economic depression, etc, probably your own situation is biting deep and eating you up in the face. Then there is the need for a Tower.

The question now is, can such safety and refuge be found in just ordinary tall, narrow building? You do not have to ponder for so long. There is a Tower, not just an ordinary tower but a TOWER OF STRENGTH. THE bible, in proverbs 18 vs. 10, says

The name of the Lord is a Strong TOWER, the [consistently] righteous man, (upright and in right standing with God), runs into it and he is safe, [high above all evil], and strong. (Amp.)

Do not be surprised that there is safety in just a name. Yes, there is, because it is not an ordinary name, (Phil. 2: 9-11), but the name alone is a Strong TOWER above every other name in strength, ability, and the like which you might have been calling before. However, the only access to this Tower is Righteousness. It is meant for the righteous, and not just the righteous, but only those who are consistent in righteousness will find salvation and safety in this name.

If you have not met Him, why not reconcile with Him today and let Him in into your life. And if you have met Him, how consistent and righteous are you in your relationship with Him? At a time like this we need an anchor, not our government, friends, money, and the like, but a real anchor; the one that lies only in the TOWER OF STRENGTH.
